Manigoldo felt them. He heard them.
Screams chased each other atop Mount Yomotsu, as soul after soul fell into the pit. At the beginning of the training, Manigoldo had gotten upset because of those screams. It had itched him to hold back each and every single soul. But after that first lession his master had taught him, he knew it was meaningless.
Today, he managed to remain calm.
It had taken a lot of effort, but Sage had insisted on the training. He wanted Manigoldo to fully understand the value of life. And he had succeeded in that task.
Just in that moment, the former Cancer Saint appeared behind Manigoldo.
„I see that you understand now“, the old man said, smilight slightly. There was even a faint touch of pride in his voice. „The wisdom you have gained by your meditations here will guide you the rest of your life.“
Manigoldo opened his eyes, stood and turned to his master. „Yes.“ He sighed. „And yet… it is hard to accept, even now. All life ending like this… all souls having to go to the Underworld…“
„I know it isn’t fair.“ Sage sighed too. „But that’s what makes the life we have the more valuable. The task of every Saint…“
„Is to value, respect and preserve life“, finished both apprentice and master.
