Fire. The fire burned. His heard was ablaze.
Kardia lay on his bed in his cabin. Like all trainees, he did not yet live in a Temple; that would come when he became a Gold Saint.
But right now, that didn’t matter.
His heart burned, and his life force evaporated in the flame.
It was one week he was in Sanctuary now, and he was glad that for that one week, he had been spared the torment of the fire.
Now, it raged with enhanced ferocity. The heat was just too much.
Suddenly, at the edge of his perception, he heard the door open. With a great effort, he willed his eyes open.
A boy stared down at him, with steel blue eyes and green hair.
„Who’re you…?“, he managed to mutter.
The stranger gave no answer. Instead, he held his hand over Kardia’s chest – and a blissful cold streamed through Kardia’s body and quenched the fire.
„What… are you doing?“, the Scorpio trainee panted. The sudden absence of heat came like a shock.
„So much heat… but don’t worry“, the boy replied in a calm voice. „I am Degel, trainee for the Aquarius Gold Cloth.“
„Degel…? Pleasure to meet you. I am…“
„You are Kardia“, Degel cut in. „Training to become the Scorpio Saint.“
That really took Kardia off guard now.
„How… how do you know…?“
„How do I know you?“, the Aquarius cut in again. A vein on Kardia’s forehead twitched upon the renewed interrruption. „Simple. Pope Sage sent me. And my master… Aquarius Krest.“
„Krest?“ The blue-haired boy was dumbfounded. „You are… Krest’s other student?“
„Yes. We have not yet met because I have been to Siberia until this morning.“
„Oh…“
„Anyway, it’s done.“ Degel took away his hand. But the fire didn’t return.
Kardia stared at this body, and flexed muscles testingly. „This is… amazing!“, he said, in awe. „The heat is gone! Thank you!“
„You’re welcome.“
„Hey… do you have any plans for tomorrow?“
„Aside from training? No.“
„How about a spar, then?“
And thus began the friendship between the Scorpion and the Waterbearer.
